  • 750g lean ground beef
  • 1 cube of beef broth
  • 2 large onions, roughly chopped
  • 450g carrots, peeled and cut into thick slices
  • 1¼kg/2lb 12oz potato, peeled and cut into large pieces
  • 2 400g cans baked beans
  • Worcestershire sauce or Tabasco sauce to taste
  • large handful of parsley, roughly chopped

Preparation steps

  1. Heat a large non-stick pan.
  2. Add the beef and sauté over medium-high heat until browned. Stir frequently and break up any lumps with a spoon.
  3. Crumble in the stock cube and mix well.
  4. Add the vegetables and stir to combine with the beef.
  5. Pour in enough boiling water (approx. 1.3 liters) to cover the mixture.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and stir well.
  7. Cover the pan and simmer gently until the vegetables are tender, about 30 minutes.
  8. Add the baked beans.
  9. Sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce or Tabasco to taste.
  10. Stir well and heat.
  11. Season to taste and sprinkle with parsley.
  12. Serve with additional Worcestershire sauce or Tabasco for those who like a peppery, spicy flavor.
