The Health Benefits of St. Nick’s Flip

When it comes to traditional holiday drinks, St Nick’s Flip is a classic that brings warmth and coziness to the festive season. Not only does it offer a delicious flavor combination but it also comes with several health benefits. Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients and how they contribute to your well-being.

St Nick’s Flip contains 200ml of cognac, a type of brandy made from grapes. Moderate consumption of cognac is associated with various health benefits. It contains antioxidants that may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and slow the aging process. In addition, cognac has a warming effect on the body, making it ideal for winter nights.

Muscat wine

The recipe calls for 150ml of Muscat wine, specifically Rutherglen. Muscat wines are known for their fruity and floral aromas. They are rich in polyphenols, plant compounds with antioxidant properties. These compounds may help protect against chronic diseases such as heart disease and certain types of cancer. Nutmeg wine also contains resveratrol, which supports brain health and has anti-inflammatory effects.

Simple Syrup

For a touch of sweetness, St Nick’s Flip contains 60ml of simple syrup, made from Funkin cane syrup. While it’s important to consume added sugar in moderation, using a natural syrup like cane syrup can be a healthier alternative to refined sugar. It contains some vitamins and minerals from the sugarcane plant, but should still be enjoyed sparingly.

The recipe calls for 6 proteins, which give the drink a creamy and foamy consistency. Egg whites are a rich source of protein and contain no cholesterol. They also provide essential amino acids that support muscle repair and growth. However, it is important to note that eating raw eggs carries the risk of bacterial contamination. Therefore, it is advisable to use pasteurized eggs or egg substitute in this recipe.

Double cream

To further increase the richness and enjoyment of St. Nick’s Flip, 120ml of double cream is added. Although cream is high in saturated fat, it can still be enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced diet. Full-fat dairy products like double cream contain essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins that support overall health.

Orange peel, cloves and ground cinnamon

The recipe also contains 6 strips of peeled orange peel, 6 cloves and 6 pinches of ground cinnamon. These ingredients not only add aromatic flavors to the drink but also provide additional health benefits. Orange peel is a good source of fiber and contains compounds with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Cloves are rich in antioxidants and are used in traditional medicine to relieve digestive problems. Ground cinnamon is known for its potential to stabilize blood sugar levels and reduce inflammation.

Overall, St. Nick’s Flip not only impresses with its unique blend of flavors, but also comes with a number of health benefits. Remember that moderation is the key to success and it is always recommended to consult a doctor regarding your specific nutritional needs.
