Health Benefits of Slow Cooker Ham with Sticky Ginger Glaze
Slow-cooker ham with sticky ginger glaze not only tantalizes your taste buds but also offers numerous health benefits. This delicious dish is packed with nutritious ingredients that contribute to your overall well-being. Let’s take a closer look at why this recipe is a great addition to your healthy diet:
1. Lean protein
An important part of this recipe is the medium sized roast ham. Gammon is a lean cut of pork that is high in protein. Protein is essential for building and repairing tissue, promoting muscle growth, and boosting metabolism. Including lean protein in your diet can help you feel fuller for longer and maintain a healthy weight.
2. Little fat
The slow cooking process melts the excess fat from the piece of ham, making it a healthier option compared to traditional fried ham. With a slow cooker you can enjoy a delicious and flavorful ham without adding unnecessary saturated fats. This is beneficial for people who want to reduce their fat intake and eat a heart-healthy diet.
3. Antioxidant-rich onions
The recipe includes thickly sliced onions, which not only add flavor but also provide a number of health benefits. Onions are a great source of antioxidants, especially quercetin. These antioxidants help protect against oxidative stress and inflammation in the body and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and certain cancers.
4. Immune-boosting ginger
This recipe contains ginger in two forms – ginger beer and ginger jam. Ginger is known for its immune-boosting properties thanks to its bioactive compounds such as gingerol. Consuming ginger can help boost your immune system, reduce inflammation, and relieve digestive discomfort. It can also be effective against nausea and inflammation.
5. Mustard for taste and nutrition
The addition of English mustard not only adds a spicy touch to the glaze but also provides various health benefits. Mustard seeds are rich in vitamins and minerals, including calcium, magnesium and potassium. These essential nutrients play a crucial role in maintaining bone health, regulating blood pressure and supporting overall vitality.
6. Reduced sugar content
Ginger beer and ginger jam add sweetness to the glaze without using excessive amounts of refined sugar. By using these ingredients, you can enjoy the delicious flavors without compromising your sugar intake. This is particularly beneficial for those with diabetes or those who want to reduce their sugar consumption to improve their overall health.
Overall, Slow Cooker Ham with Sticky Ginger Glaze is a healthy and tasty dish that offers numerous nutritional benefits. From lean protein to immune-boosting ginger, this recipe offers a complete meal for anyone looking for a balance of flavor and comfort.
