  • 350g self-raising flour, plus a little more for dusting
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 85g cold butter, cut into cubes
  • 4 tbsp golden powdered sugar
  • 150 g cup of natural, full-fat yogurt
  • 4 tbsp whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp milk, for glazing

Preparation steps

  1. Place a baking tray in the oven at 220°C/200°C fan/gas mark 7.
  2. Place the flour, salt and baking powder in a food processor and beat in the butter until it disappears.

  4. Warm yogurt, milk, and vanilla together in the microwave or in a skillet for 1 minute. It should be hot and may look a little lumpy.

  6. Once everything is in, stop.
  7. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and then, using floured hands, fold it over a few times – just enough to create a smooth dough.
  8. Press out about 4cm thick, dip a 7cm cutter in more flour, then cut out 4 rounds, flouring the cutter each time.
  9. Squeeze the rest lightly and then repeat until the dough is used up.
  10. Brush the surface with egg wash, sprinkle flour over the hot tray and place the scones on top.
  11. Bake for 12 minutes until the dough has risen and is golden brown.
