  • 250 g Saboo Dana (sago seeds)
  • 400g medium potatoes, cooked
  • 5 tbsp crushed peanuts
  • 20g coriander, chopped
  • 4 tbsp ginger, chopped
  • 1 green chili pepper, chopped
  • 3 teaspoons cumin, toasted and crushed
  • A pinch of salt to taste
  • 1.5 l oil for deep frying
  • 60g radish, finely chopped
  • 50g cooked beetroot, diced
  • 15g shiso leaves
  • 250g thick yogurt
  • 200g cucumber, grated
  • 3 tbsp peanut powder
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation steps

  1. Wash sago seeds and soak in water for 4 hours.
  2. In a mixing bowl, grate the cooked potatoes and add the crushed peanuts, coriander, ginger, green chili, cumin and salt.
  3. Carefully squeeze out the soaked sago seeds and add them to the potatoes.
  4. Mix well and divide the mixture into 18 equal portions – about 30 g each.
  5. Form the mixture into round, flat patties and refrigerate for 45 minutes.
  6. Fry the patties in medium-hot oil until crispy and golden brown.
  7. To make the relish, whisk the yogurt and squeeze the grated cucumber before adding it.
  8. Add peanut powder, sugar and salt to the yogurt-cucumber mixture.
  9. Mix well.
  10. Serve the tikkies with yogurt and cucumber chutney on top and as a side dish.
  11. Garnish with radishes, shiso leaves and beetroot.
