Rösti Bolognese cake

Ingredients

  • 700g potatoes
  • 4 medium carrots
  • 2 celery sticks
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 500g pack of lean ground beef
  • 400 g canned chopped tomatoes
  • 350 g jar of sweet red pepper sauce
  • 50 g mature cheddar, grated

Preparation steps

  1. Cook the potatoes until tender, about 15 minutes.
  2. Drain and let cool.
  3. Finely chop carrots, celery and garlic in a food processor.
  4. Heat half the oil in a pan with a lid and add the chopped vegetables.
  5. Cover and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  6. Remove the lid, turn the heat to high and cook for 2 minutes.
  7. Add the beef and stir-fry until browned, about 3 minutes.
  8. Add the tomato-pepper sauce and 4 tablespoons of water and bring to the boil.
  9. Cover and simmer over low heat for 25 minutes and season.
  10. Preheat the oven to 180°C fan/200°C top/bottom heat/Gas 6.
  11. Peel the potatoes and grate them into a bowl.
  12. Add the remaining oil and three quarters of the cheese, season and mix lightly.
  13. Place the beef in an ovenproof dish.
  14. Spread the roasted topping on top and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  15. Bake for 35 minutes until bubbling and golden brown.
