Preparation steps

  1. Sift flour and a pinch of salt into a large bowl.
  2. Grate in the frozen butter.

  4. Stir in 150 ml cold water until a soft dough forms, then knead with your hands.
  5. Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas 6.

Bacon, sundried tomato and feta rolls not only delight your taste buds but also offer several health benefits. Let’s take a closer look at some of the nutritional properties of each ingredient in this delicious recipe:

1 egg

The beaten egg used in this recipe adds moisture to the dough. Eggs are a great source of high-quality protein, essential vitamins and minerals. They provide nutrients such as choline, which supports brain health, vitamin B12 for red blood cell production, and vitamin D for strong bones.

2. Plain flour

The moderate use of pure flour provides the necessary carbohydrates for energy. However, it is important to note that regular flour is refined and lacks the nutrients found in whole wheat flour. Therefore, it is best to consume these rolls in moderation as a treat rather than a staple.

3. Butter

The small amount of frozen butter used in this recipe helps create flaky and buttery rolls. Although butter contains saturated fats, it also contains vitamins A and E. As with any high-fat ingredient, moderation is the key to enjoying its benefits without consuming too much unhealthy fats.

4. Streaky strips of bacon

Bacon strips give these rolls a delicious, savory flavor. However, it’s important to remember that bacon is high in saturated fat and sodium. Therefore, it should be consumed in moderation. Nevertheless, bacon contains essential nutrients such as protein, vitamin B12 and zinc.

5. Dried tomatoes

Dried tomatoes not only give the rolls a tangy and slightly sweet taste, but also offer several health benefits. They’re packed with antioxidants, including lycopene, which may help reduce the risk of certain diseases. Dried tomatoes are also a good source of vitamins A, C and K as well as fiber.

6. Feta cheese

The crumbled feta cheese in these rolls adds a creamy and salty touch. Although feta cheese is high in sodium, it is also a good source of calcium, phosphorus and protein. Moderation is important to enjoy the taste and nutritional benefits without exceeding the recommended sodium intake.

7. Fresh basil

Not only does basil improve the overall flavor profile of these rolls, but it also adds some nutritional value. It is rich in antioxidants, including flavonoids, which are thought to have various health benefits. Basil may also have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, supporting overall well-being.

In summary, these rolls with bacon, sun-dried tomatoes and feta offer a delicious treat while providing various nutritional benefits. However, due to the saturated fat and sodium content, it is important to consume them in moderation. Enjoy them as part of a balanced diet to enjoy their taste and benefits without compromising your overall health.
