This quick and spicy version of Nasi Goreng gives the dish a very special twist with the addition of hot chili sauce, making it a perfect dish for anyone who likes bold and fiery flavors. Let’s take a closer look at the health benefits offered by this delicious recipe.

1. Nutrient-rich brown rice

The base of this nasi goreng recipe is cooked brown rice. Unlike white rice, brown rice retains the bran and germ layers, making it a nutritionally superior option. Brown rice is an excellent source of fiber, B vitamins, magnesium and selenium. It also ensures a consistent release of energy, keeping you feeling full and satisfied for a longer period of time.

2. Boost of vegetables

This tasty recipe includes various vegetables such as onions, garlic, carrots and Chinese or savoy cabbage. Vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet and have numerous benefits. They are low in calories, high in fiber and rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Incorporating vegetables into your nasi goreng helps increase your daily nutrient intake and promotes overall well-being.

3. Fish sauce for umami flavor (optional)

Although fish sauce is listed as an optional ingredient, it adds a unique umami flavor to the dish. Umami is often described as the fifth basic taste and enhances the entire taste experience. Fish sauce is made from fermented anchovies and contains essential amino acids and minerals. However, if you prefer a vegetarian or vegan version, you are welcome to leave out the fish sauce without compromising the taste.

4. Soy sauce for rich flavor

Soy sauce is another ingredient that not only adds depth and richness to nasi goreng, but also brings health benefits. It is a fermented sauce made from soybeans, wheat, water and salt. Soy sauce is a source of protein, iron and antioxidants. Be mindful of the sodium content when watching your salt intake, as soy sauce can be quite high in sodium.

5. Egg for protein and essential nutrients

In this recipe, a perfectly cooked egg is added to the nasi goreng, providing a nourishing boost of protein. Eggs are a complete source of protein and contain all the essential amino acids our bodies need. They are also rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamin B12, vitamin D, selenium and choline. Including eggs in your diet can support muscle recovery, brain health, and overall cellular function.

6. Hot chili sauce for metabolism

To give this Nasi Goreng its spicy kick, hot chili sauce is served as a side dish. Chili peppers contain a compound called capsaicin, which gives them their fiery flavor. Capsaicin has been shown to slightly stimulate metabolism and suppress appetite, thereby having a positive effect on weight control. Additionally, chili peppers are rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants, which support a healthy immune system and fight inflammation.
