- Flour for dusting
- 425g package of ready-rolled puff pastry (2 sheets in each package)
- 350g jar of minced meat
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 powdered sugar for serving
- Preheat the oven to 200°C/fan 180°C/gas 6.
- Line two baking trays with baking paper.
- Roll out one of the sheets of dough on a lightly floured surface with the long edge facing you.
- Spread the minced meat on the dough sheet.
- Place the second sheet of dough on top of the minced meat layer.
- Halve the dough widthwise in the middle.
- Take each piece and cut it into 4 strips 6cm, 4cm, 2cm and 1cm wide.
- Cut evenly to create 12 dough strips.
- Brush each strip with egg and chill for 10 minutes.
- Begin assembling the trees on the baking sheets by stacking the strips of dough with the ground meat center facing up.
- Start with the longest strip and end with the smallest strip.
- For a more tree-like appearance, fold the strips of dough slightly in half.
- Squeeze the stacks together with your hand to press them into a tree shape.
- The assembled trees can be frozen for up to a month.
- Bake the trees in the preheated oven for 20 minutes (25 minutes if baking from the freezer).
- Remove from the oven when the dough is golden brown and the minced meat is bubbling.
- Let the trees cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
- Using a spatula, transfer the trees to a wire rack and allow to cool completely.
- Before serving, dust the trees with powdered sugar.
