Ingredients

  • 60g ginger, peel left
  • 400 ml fresh apple juice
  • ½ lemon, juiced

Tip

Do as much as you want: We tried many different amounts of ginger per liquid and the amount we liked best for a shot that was still very ginger but not overpowering was 15g of ginger per 100ml of liquid. This makes one 100ml serving or two 50ml shots. Use these proportions to make as much or as little ginger juice as you like.
Prepare with pineapple: For a more tropical flavor, pineapple juice can be substituted for apple juice.
Just ginger: If you don’t want to use fruit juice, you can simply replace it with the same amount of water. However, you may need to sweeten it with honey to taste.
Turmeric and ginger juice: To add the health benefits of fresh turmeric to your shots, simply swap half of the ginger for turmeric prepared in the same way as the ginger.

Preparation steps

  1. Cut the ginger into small pieces.
  2. Place the chopped ginger in a blender.
  3. Add the apple and lemon juice to the blender.
  4. Puree the ingredients in the blender for a few minutes until a very smooth mixture is formed.
  5. Place a very fine sieve over a pitcher.
  6. If you don’t have a fine sieve, line a regular sieve with a piece of muslin or a clean, thin tea towel.
  7. Pour the ginger shot mixture into the strainer.
  8. Drain the mixture in the colander.
  9. Squeeze the remaining pulp dry with the back of a ladle.
  10. If using a cloth, twist it to squeeze out all the juice.
  11. Pour the strained juice into a bottle.
  12. Drink the ginger shot immediately or store it in the refrigerator for up to four days.
  13. Be sure to shake the ginger shot well before serving.
