  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 400g pork loin steak, cut into strips
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • small packet of sage leaves, chopped
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 500 ml bottle of apple or pear cider
  • 2 medium pears, cored and cut into 8 slices each
  • 100 ml cream
  • crusty bread for serving

Preparation steps

  1. Heat half the oil in a medium saucepan or ovenproof casserole dish over high heat.
  2. Season the pork and fry for 3-4 minutes, then transfer to a plate.
  3. Reduce heat to medium and add remaining oil and onion.
  4. Soak for 8 minutes, then add the garlic and fry for another 2 minutes.
  5. Add sage and flour, stir and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Increase the heat, then pour in the apple cider and let it bubble for 4 minutes.
  7. Return the pork and pan juices to the pan, season, then bring to a simmer and cover.
  8. Let cook for 10 minutes.
  9. Add the pear slices, stir and cook for another 10 minutes.
  10. Stir in the cream and season.
  11. Divide into bowls and serve with crusty bread.
