1. Beetroot – a nutritional powerhouse
One of the main ingredients in this curry is beetroot. These bright red roots are not only visually appealing but also provide a number of health benefits. Beets are an excellent source of fiber, which aids digestion and promotes satiety, making them a great addition to any balanced diet.
In addition, beetroot is rich in essential vitamins and minerals. It is a great source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that supports immune system function and collagen production for healthy skin. In addition, beetroot contains iron, folic acid and potassium, all of which play an important role in maintaining a healthy body.
2. Turmeric and curry paste – anti-inflammatory powerhouses
The Madras curry paste used in this recipe typically contains various spices, with turmeric being a key component. Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Including turmeric in your diet can help reduce inflammation in the body and may be helpful for conditions such as arthritis and heart disease.
In addition, the other spices contained in the curry paste, such as mustard seeds, can also contribute to an overall anti-inflammatory effect. When you enjoy this creamy beetroot curry, you can enjoy the flavor while potentially reaping the benefits of these spices.
3. Yogurt – a gut-friendly ingredient
The addition of low-fat natural yogurt not only gives the curry a creamy consistency, but also provides beneficial probiotics. Probiotics are live bacteria and yeast that are good for your digestive system. Consuming yogurt regularly can help maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria, supporting optimal digestion and overall gut health.
Yogurt is also a good source of calcium, which is crucial for strong bones and teeth. It contains several other nutrients including protein, vitamin B12 and potassium.
4. Almonds – Nutrient powerhouses
This recipe contains ground almonds, which give the beetroot curry a thick and creamy consistency. Almonds are a delicious and nutritious addition to any meal as they are rich in healthy fats, protein and fiber. They also contain vitamin E, magnesium and antioxidants, all of which contribute to various health benefits.
There is evidence that including almonds in your diet may help lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease, and support healthy weight management.
5. Healthy alternative – basmati rice
This creamy beetroot curry can be enjoyed plain or combined with basmati rice, adding a filling and nutritious touch to your meal. Basmati rice is a long-grain type of rice that is low in fat and high in carbohydrates. It has a lower glycemic index compared to other types of rice, meaning it does not cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels, making it an ideal choice for those monitoring their blood sugar.
