  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 250g minced meat
  • 1 large carrot, coarsely grated
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 200g red lentils
  • 600 ml beef broth
  • 140g frozen peas
  • 1¼kg potatoes, diced
  • 1 large cauliflower (approx. 400 g), cut into florets
  • 150 ml milk
  • 50g butter
  • 100 g mature cheddar, grated

Preparation steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas 4.
  2. Heat the oil in a large pan and add the minced meat. Cook for 5 minutes until everything is browned all over.
  3. Add the carrot to the pan and cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the tomato puree and season. Let cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add lentils and broth. Let simmer for 20 minutes.
  6. Stir in peas.
  7. Bring a pot of water to the boil and add the potatoes. Let simmer for 15 minutes.
  8. Add the cauliflower to the pan and simmer for another 10 minutes until the vegetables are soft.
  9. Drain the vegetables and return them to the pan to dry.
  10. Add milk, butter and spices to the pan and mix everything together.
  11. Add the cheese, keeping a handful, and mix well.
  12. Cover and set aside 500g of the mash mixture for a future recipe.
  13. Place the minced meat in a large baking dish (approx. 30 x 20 cm).
  14. Pour the porridge over the minced meat.
  15. Sprinkle with cheese.
  16. Bake until golden brown, about 30 minutes.
